₹10,000 a month in LIC MF Value Fund: what it became

Each row is a monthly SIP that ends today (1 Oct 2026). Post-tax assumes you redeem everything today with no other capital gains this year.

Same ₹10,000/month for 3 years, same fund manager, same portfolio: the Regular plan ended ₹8,249 lower (1.9% of the Direct value). The XIRR gap is 1.39 percentage points a year — that is the distributor commission inside the Regular plan's expense ratio, compounding against you. Direct vs Regular, explained.

Did LIC MF Value Fund beat a plain Nifty 500 index fund?

A ₹10,000 monthly SIP over the last 3 years (Nov 2023 onward) is worth ₹4.37 L in LIC MF Value Fund (XIRR 13.7%) against ₹3.63 L in the index fund (XIRR 0.7%) — ₹73,583 more in the active fund.

The index fund's NAV already includes its own expense ratio and tracking error, so this is what you would actually have earned. The comparison uses the Nifty 500 index fund we match to this category, which may differ from the fund's official benchmark, and it can only cover months where both funds have NAVs (Aug 2023 to Oct 2026). Only funds that still exist are compared; merged or closed funds, often the weaker ones, drop out of AMFI's list, which flatters active funds as a group (how this comparison works).

Every SIP this fund has ever allowed: rolling returns

We started a 3-year SIP in every month the Direct plan's history allows — 3 separate SIPs. The worst returned 13.9% a year (started Oct 2023), the median 15.6%, the best 17.0%; none of them lost money. That spread is the honest answer to “what return should I expect?” — not a single trailing number.

Where does this data come from?

Daily NAVs published by AMFI (Association of Mutual Funds in India). We take the first NAV of each month as the SIP date and value units at the latest NAV. Updated monthly.

How these numbers are calculated

NAVs are AMFI's official daily NAVs (Growth option). Instalments fall on the first business day of each month; stamp duty (0.005%) and exit loads are ignored. Returns are XIRR on actual dates. Tax: 12.5% LTCG above ₹1.25 lakh on units held over a year, 20% STCG on the rest, and Section 112A grandfathering at the 31-Jan-2018 NAV for older units. Full method: methodology.
