Sundaram Services Fund finished ahead in 37 of 37 (100%) — ahead in every one of them. The median gap was +6.7 percentage points a year; the worst +3.7 (started Mar 2021), the best +8.5 (started Dec 2018).

XIRR of every 5-year monthly SIP, by the month it started. Gap = fund XIRR minus index fund XIRR, in percentage points a year.
| Window | SIPs compared | Fund ahead | Median gap | Worst gap | Best gap |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3-year SIPs | 61 | 100% | +6.9 pp | +2.3 ppstarted Mar 2023 | +13.9 ppstarted Dec 2018 |
| 5-year SIPs | 37 | 100% | +6.7 pp | +3.7 ppstarted Mar 2021 | +8.5 ppstarted Dec 2018 |
The index fund's NAV already includes its own expense ratio and tracking error, so this is what you would actually have earned. The comparison uses the Nifty 50 index fund we match to this category, which may differ from the fund's official benchmark, and it can only cover months where both funds have NAVs (Oct 2018 to Oct 2026). Only funds that still exist are compared; merged or closed funds, often the weaker ones, drop out of AMFI's list, which flatters active funds as a group (how this comparison works).
Every SIP this fund has ever allowed: rolling returns
We started a 5-year SIP in every month the Direct plan's history allows — 37 separate SIPs. The worst returned 10.4% a year (started Apr 2021), the median 22.1%, the best 28.7%; none of them lost money. That spread is the honest answer to “what return should I expect?” — not a single trailing number.
